Just went for the sneak preview of Ong Bak 2 yesterday and I must say, it’s BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDD…
The storyline is so predictable and it left you hanging in the end. There’s a saying that it was left intentionally for Ong Bak 3… to which I’m sure not watching. Ong Bak 2 has no relation at all to the 1st part of Ong Bak and I don’t see where is the relation to the name. In Ong Bak, the name was used to refer to the stolen head of a buddha statue called Ong Bak. But, Ong Bak 2 is just a mere ‘orang asli’ movie with some figthing scene.
And talking bout fighting, we all watch Ong Bak expecting for some splendid fighting actions and skills but it turn out so weird. I mean Chinese Kung-Fu??? Where is the bloody Muay Thai (or Muay Boron – the ancient boxing style used by Tony Jaa in Ong Bak). We want to see more of the elbow and knee killing move. Here in Ong Bak 2, you see Tony doing Snake, Tiger, Crane and even Drunken Fist style (which he cant carry well all those). If I want to see all those, I might as well go get some old Jackie Chan movie. Maybe this is Tony’s way of showing how much he can do… even overperforming his idol Jackie Chan. Besides, he showed how he can immitates everyone from Jackie Chan to Bruce Lee, or even classical masked dance. But Tony, I think it’s better that everyone does what they do best… and in your case, well, just stick with Muay Thai (and we all know and admire how good you are in it).
The only thing I would compliment on this movie is their color and angle. And again, no doubles or wire-fu were used, very painful too, hmmm, It is very well filmed but I don’t think it’s enough to comprehend the bad storyline, and the repeat scenes of flashbacks. Perhaps, my expectation is way too high for this after watching at his 1st part. Because of that, I think it’s better for me to share some actions from the 1st part, Ong Bak, rather than showing anything from Ong Bak 2 to spoil everything.
Anyway, Ong Bak 2 will be in cinema 5 Feb, which is this coming Thursday. It’s a much bigger production compare with Ong Bak 1, but still, it disappoints me a lot lah >_< Although i’m not a hardcore martial art fan, and my review may b too honest… but this is really how i feel lor…

I TOTALLY agree with your comments and feeling about the Ong Bak2. You spoke out my mind. I watched the premiere last Friday in GSC. It’s truly a bad and lousy storyline. The fighting skills are totally disappointing his fans. I rather watched Ong Bak again than Ong Bak2. The pretty main actress was showing herself not more than 10 minutes in the movie. What a waste?! I symphatise her for such a role. Ok, for my plot in the movie, I would like to watch Tony Jaa as an undercover from Thailand to co-operate with American Interpols for investigating a stolen Buddha Statue in the dark market located in LA. It’s truly an entry to the Hollywood films as many Westerners or Europe people know who is Tony Jaa long ago. Do you think it’s better than the ‘orang asli’ shows? =]
那我就不要看了咯~~~~~~
agree wit u. it’s such a disappointment. i was hoping that the story will continue on with him finally learn and created muay thai… like a founder. maybe he combine his art of weapon and dance and finally create a killer art – muay thai. but it all ended just like that. i have no idea what i was watching and it just ended. i was like wat the f??? should have gone for the dvd instead. waste my time and money
poster design已经不能挑起观看的欲望……

awww never heard of the new one.. but since you said its no good… then its a big disappointment to me…
I think the movie was a success. I like that it is different from the first movie where the plot was even more predictable. By the way, I just watched it.
This movie almost went bust. Whoever did a good job salvaging it.
For SE Asia, I consider the standard high. You should see the reviews in other parts of the world. Mostly positive.
yeah agree, for se asia, i think the editing etc are consider very good too, its a much bigger production compare with the first one~ hehe i expect more on muay thai from this movie, thats why feel truly disappointed, anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts with me;)
