I’m not too much a cartoon enthusiast but when it comes to our local culture, I guess no one would have not heard of the name Lat. Dato’ Mohd. Nor Khalid, or better known as Lat has bring out our Malaysian village culture and introduce it to the world. It is truly Malaysian what he has drawn.
But what I wanna talk about today is about this adaptation of his work onto our stamp. Yes, now we have Lat’s stamps and I got hold of it too :D

But there are actually more stories about these stamps rather than just some comics. It seems that to Lat, post is a very meaningful thing. He said that when he first started to draw comics, he would post his work in a big envelope and will anxiously wait for the return mail. If it’s a big envelope, it will mean the work is rejected. But if it’s a small envelope, it’s good news. Since then, he has always envision on having his work on those stamps that will come along with all the hope that it carries.
I agree with what he said though. All those mails that goes around does carry with them lots of hopes. Some can be a simple reply on your application, or a dear friend, or your bills that need to be paid ><… it does bring me back to times when I used to post a lot. To all those dear friends that we’ve been corresponding through those years through mail, how have you all been? I miss all of you :”( I still remember how I would walk by myself and will just think of writing a friend a mail, and will just take out a paper and start writing and mail it (I used to carry stamps in my wallet last time)… and I have quite a creative way of posting those letters too, without envelope. Not sure what I mean? Imagine folding a paper into a sealed envelope. Still don’t get it? Nvm. If we meet 1 day I’ll show you :)
It would be so good if there were Lat’s stamps back then. It will surely be something good to be send to those pen-pals that I had overseas~ (just hope that they don’t think we live on a tree >.<)

But now, everyone can have their own stamps. You just need to send in your photos to POS Malaysia and then you can have your own stamp. Cool ya.
So, here’s the stamp that I got for myself… the whole range of it :)

And there’s something at this Stamp Week exhibition at Times Square that interests me… a Stamp Passport. So, why is it a Passport??? Simple, passport will be stamped and so we have Stamp Passport!!!
Apparently, this is the 2nd time they released this. It’s quite a different way for stamp collection to have pages for you to have your stamps on and stamped. But it may not appeal to all stamp collectors. We stamp collectors like to have our collection on our own stamp book but I still bought one of it for fun :) Let’s now share my Passport with you (sorry there’s no passport photo here ya :P)

… and all these passports are serialised. You will need to register for it.

and so I did…

any my registration number, is no other than my DOB :)

So, let’s start working on pasting all these stamps ^^ Quite some time since I last paste a stamp (now I normally send email :))

You like my passport??? Haha!!! Now to the stamping department~

lak stamp~

Wanna see my stamped passport? Hehe…

and this is the stamp on that day and I go merciless… stamp stamp stamp (each day they will release a stamp with the individual character and I got to see some collectors who have actually gotten all the different dates of the character stamp >.<)

Aside than these Lat’s stamps, they are also gallery (and there are more of Lat stamps ><).

Too much of it you think? Luckily, there are stalls by some stamp collectors for me to check out. Got to see quite a collection of stamps there and I even bought a collectible Malaysia stamps.

I like the silver color of the stamp (stamp also goes *Bling*Bling*) but according to Cloud, it’s actually a famous Malaysian fairy tales – Si Tanggang. I must be getting old and can’t remember about all this tales. I asked Cloud to tell me more but he “jual tinggi” :( Anyone knows anything about this story? Share with me ya.
But I think I spent more time at these stalls compared to the Lat’s ones. As you know, stamps are more valuable if it’s older. Oh, and another thing about stamp collection that I’ve learned. Stamps worth more when it is cancelled (stamped). However, most of the stamps there are not cancelled. There are quite a number of stamps available there, but I seems to have most of them :) Not showing off ya, but I really have quite a huge collection of stamps myself. Collected since young and very precious and priceless some of them.
Still don’t believe? Let me give all of you an opportunity of a lifetime to look at these priceless piece of collection.

* now added in the passport :P

lucky me stated when I first started this… since standard 3 :)
So, how many countries of stamps can you find below. Let’s see… Italy… New Zealand… Nederland… Singapore… UK… Japan… Denmark… Portugal… Indonesia… USA… Hong Kong… Australia… and the list goes on, and on, and on. These are those that I’ve not have time to put it to album and if you’ve noticed, it’s all stamped. Can you imagine how it’s like to get these stamps which were cancelled. You’ll probably need to get friends from that countries to send it over… and these stamps ages way back. Of course, beside than just writing back then, I also exchanged it with those collectors and uncles who share the same interests ^^

And here we have Malaysia… nono… it’s Malaya (check out your History book on the name coz I also forgot it’s from when, but I guess it’s before our Merdeka time)~ :P

And here are more… I normally put them according to the country.

If you love stamps too, feel free to drop me a line and we can talk more on it. And since Xmas is around the corner, here’s one for all of you :)
